As a treat for Nick who just returned from 2 weeks away from all things video related, we went out for movie and sushi. The sushi was what he missed most at camp. Funny, we thought it was going to be pizza.
In some karmic lining up of the stars or perhaps the energy discharged in the lighting storm this afternoon, the boys actually agreed on a movie that the whole family could see without anyone having to sulk or at least be cajoled into attending. We set off in the car to find the new "art film" movie theatre in Stamford (we don't have one here in Greenwich for some reason) to see Napoleon Dynamite.
Napoleon Dynamite is just pure fun. Really funny. Napoleon Dynamite is a teen in smalltown Idaho who lives with his 32-year-old nerd brother and 4-wheelin' grandmother. The time setting is sometime after 1982 and just after the internet became commerical. Napoleon is a nerd, his new friend Pedro is a low-riding nerd. Napoleon wears moon boots and every other period detail is just perfect. I don't know anyone who can't relate to the nerdly high school kid plight and Napoleon Dynamite captures it exquisitely well.
We had to ban movie lines at dinner because we needed a break but I think we'll be saying "Gosh", "Duuuh" and "Give me one of your tots" for a good long time.
Hunt out this movie. You won't be disappointed.
