Okay, so it's been a month. It feels like it's been a day ... or a year ... depending on the hour. So much has happened in the month that it's hard to put it all down.
Yes, I took a hiatus. And, no, it wasn't intentional. There has been so much going on that I just never got to the blog ... or the work websites ... or a whole bunch of stuff. This teen thing is just out of control and who EVER thought that it would all get easier as they rapidly approached adulthood must have been one of those fake memoir people.
A few pearls gleaned over the last month:
1 -- I met Harlan Coben the other day and acted like a goofy fan.
2 -- The bookstore in New Canaan ... closed and we picked up a bunch of the events they had planned with the library. I don't know why it didn't dawn on me that this was going to be double the work.
3 -- David Sedaris' SO had a fit because we didn't have any hardcovers at his event but he sold a ton o' book
4 -- Holding rock concerts for kids can be a jarring experience. I met the police on several occasions -- for both business and personal reasons -- at one of our recent events. Not a night to repeat. I gained an infinite amount of insight into the world of teens and the hellish fine lines involved in being a parent of a teen.
5 -- 14-year olds with almost no body mass should not drink massive amounts of alcohol and visit my store; I've had to deal with an accidental drug overdose (and a 911 call as a result) and alcohol poisoning "event" with customers this past month
6 -- Crew is good for kids; I highly recommend it
7 -- Tylenol PM works
8 -- I can leave work at 3pm every day and nothing really horrible happens.
9 -- I can't figure out what the natural motion is that an elliptical trainer emulates but I sure wish I could do that natural motion as efficiently as that elliptical machine
10 -- Didn't cause it. Can't control it. Can't cure it.
I-can't-believe-I-missed-David-Sedaris.
I'm having a little fit right now.
I'm glad you're back blogging. Soon we shall e-mail and all will be well, I'm sure. Take care and keep keepin' your head above water.
